“Between the steps”

A film about 7 young ballet students in their final year at the National Ballet School in Oslo, Norway.

The film opens a rare window into their pressure, hope, and vulnerability, and invites us to feel the weight of expectation that they carry every day. Through honest stories and intimate moments, the project explores what it truly costs to chase excellence. It is a tribute to their courage, their resilience, and the tender reality behind every graceful performance.

the idea behind this project

This will be a documentary film, but it will deliberately step away from stories about who wins scholarships, enters competitions, lands roles, or is otherwise ranked according to talent. I want to shift the focus away from the idea of “who is best” and instead explore everything that unfolds between the performances. The friendships, the doubts, the joy, the encouragement, and the intensity of standing in the middle of a defining moment in youth.
The film will be a portrait of a life stage, not a competition. It is not about measuring achievement, but about understanding what it feels like to be there.

Kind Words about the project

“What stood out most was the sensitivity throughout the process. Nothing felt rushed or forced. There was space to be present, to settle into the moment, and that is exactly what you feel in the film, from what I have seen so far. “
